Finding Inspiration When the Carousel Just Keeps Turning

Jun 1, 2023

I've been feeling a bit stuck. The entrepreneurial journey is a thrilling adventure filled with excitement, promise, and the thrill of innovation. As time passes, it's only natural to encounter moments when it feels like we're repeatedly going through the same motions. It is within the repetitive moments that actual growth and innovation lie hidden.

I have been feeling a bit stuck. I am sure many of you can relate to this sentiment. The entrepreneurial journey is a thrilling adventure filled with excitement, promise, and the thrill of innovation. I remember describing the emotions as a burning sensation in my chest when I was younger.

But as time passes, it is only natural to encounter moments when it feels like we’re repeatedly going through the same motions. For me, it was all about the people aspect of the business. The “hiring mistakes” made, the staff turnover and the resultant instability. As a result, it all became monotonous, and the fire that once fuelled my passion started to dim. However, I have embarked on a quest to find inspiration and reignite my entrepreneurial spirit, even in the face of repetition.

Here are some thoughts I have found helpful in my own journey:

  1. Rediscover Your Why: Take a step back and reconnect with the core reasons for starting your venture. Reflect on your intended impact and the problem you set out to solve. Reminding yourself of these fundamental motivations can reignite the passion that fueled your entrepreneurial spirit in the first place.

  1. Embrace Continuous Learning: Entrepreneurship is a lifelong learning process. Seek new knowledge, explore emerging trends, and invest in personal and professional development. By staying curious and open-minded, you will discover new avenues for growth and inspiration.

  1. Seek Inspiration Beyond Your Industry: Sometimes, the best ideas come from looking outside your immediate circle. Explore diverse sectors, communities, and nature for fresh perspectives and innovative approaches. The insights from outside your industry can bring new life into your endeavours.

  1. Collaborate and Network: Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who share your entrepreneurial drive. By connecting with fellow entrepreneurs, you’ll gain fresh insights and perspectives.

  1. Innovate Within Constraints: Instead of viewing repetition as a hindrance, challenge yourself to find creative solutions within the existing framework. Embrace limitations and use them as stepping stones for innovation. By thinking outside the box and discovering novel approaches within the repetitive cycle, you can uncover untapped potential and differentiate yourself.

  1. Celebrate Small Wins.

The journey of an entrepreneur is a continuous cycle of ups and downs, successes, and challenges. It is within the repetitive moments that actual growth and innovation lie hidden. The potential for extraordinary success lies within the repetitive cycle—embrace it, adapt, and keep moving forward on your entrepreneurial path.

The Power of Honesty in Autumn

The Power of Honesty in Autumn

Running a business is an exhilarating journey, filled with highs, lows, and everything in between. However, amidst the hustle, it is  easy to fall into a dangerous trap: masking the truth from yourself and others. Often, this happens if we are honest because we feel we need to maintain a perception of being “strong” and in absolute control. Whether it is sugarcoating problems, avoiding uncomfortable decisions, or seeking distractions, dishonesty—even in subtle forms—can quietly sabotage your success.

Take a moment to reflect: What uncomfortable truths do you need to confront? Start there because the businesses that thrive are not the ones that avoid complex issues; they are the ones brave enough to face them head-on.

A Good Cake versus a Fantastic Cake, in Business

A Good Cake versus a Fantastic Cake, in Business

It is the month of love and, coincidentally, my birthday month, so cake is at the top of my mind! I would love to say that I am the baker in our house, but honestly, I am not. Baking is an exact science with little room for deviation. While I enjoy baked goods—as many of us certainly do—I prefer the freedom that cooking provides. Perhaps that is truly entrepreneurial, and we should take note of it if we want to build something truly extraordinary and resilient. As a baker, transforming a basic recipe into something remarkable is an art. It is all about maintaining a delicate balance between the ingredients’ interactions while giving the cake a unique flavour or appearance.

A cake requires specific structural components to be functional. This conceptually raises an interesting question: Is every cake just another cake? And are the visually appealing ones necessarily the best? This contemplation has occupied my thoughts for the past few weeks, particularly in the context of business.
