A Harvest Table of Vegetables for an Entrepreneur’s Dinner Party

I recently moved house. What a stressful experience! Anyone who has gone through this will understand what I mean. If moving amidst a global pandemic is not enough, we decided to renovate. Proverbially ripped the bandaid off!

What I have been thinking about a lot lately has nothing to do with moving or building works.

But let me tell you about the roots of my thoughts… Admittedly I got lost in my newly acquired garden. To escape from some of the messiness, chaos and overall adjustment needing to happen.

I have always loved cooking and wanted an extensive veggie and herb garden. Now I am lucky enough to have both. Well, the veggies are a work in progress; let’s agree to that!  I planted every seed following the instructions on the seed backs meticulously. I watered, I fed… but I am disappointed.

Many of my seeds did not grow to my dismay, and those that did were not very successful.

As a modern small-scale farmer, I googled it and asked a few friends for advice. Of course, everyone had their own theory. They were ranging from the brand of seeds to compost.

Then I just decided to redo some of the sowings. And low and behold, the plants are now much more substantial. So, what went wrong? Well, it was very straightforward. I was out by a few days /weeks in the sowing. It was just not the right time.

This got me thinking, why do some people find great success and others don’t? When some of them do all the right things?

It’s all about timing and finding the right time to do what needs to be done. And sometimes to wait a little longer or to try again… Patience truly is a precious virtue.

The Power of Honesty in Autumn

The Power of Honesty in Autumn

Running a business is an exhilarating journey, filled with highs, lows, and everything in between. However, amidst the hustle, it is  easy to fall into a dangerous trap: masking the truth from yourself and others. Often, this happens if we are honest because we feel we need to maintain a perception of being “strong” and in absolute control. Whether it is sugarcoating problems, avoiding uncomfortable decisions, or seeking distractions, dishonesty—even in subtle forms—can quietly sabotage your success.

Take a moment to reflect: What uncomfortable truths do you need to confront? Start there because the businesses that thrive are not the ones that avoid complex issues; they are the ones brave enough to face them head-on.

A Good Cake versus a Fantastic Cake, in Business

A Good Cake versus a Fantastic Cake, in Business

It is the month of love and, coincidentally, my birthday month, so cake is at the top of my mind! I would love to say that I am the baker in our house, but honestly, I am not. Baking is an exact science with little room for deviation. While I enjoy baked goods—as many of us certainly do—I prefer the freedom that cooking provides. Perhaps that is truly entrepreneurial, and we should take note of it if we want to build something truly extraordinary and resilient. As a baker, transforming a basic recipe into something remarkable is an art. It is all about maintaining a delicate balance between the ingredients’ interactions while giving the cake a unique flavour or appearance.

A cake requires specific structural components to be functional. This conceptually raises an interesting question: Is every cake just another cake? And are the visually appealing ones necessarily the best? This contemplation has occupied my thoughts for the past few weeks, particularly in the context of business.
